Lord of Life Church Family,
The Elders and I met last night (Tue, March 17, 2020) and I want to provide you the latest update regarding Lord of Life’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Like all of you, we have been constantly monitoring the developments to contain the coronavirus. These developments change minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. The Kane County Commissioner recently declared a Public Health Emergency for Kane County in which our church property is located. The Governor’s Office has requested people stay home if at all possible and for the public to practice social distancing. The intent of the law from governing officials is to keep people home if at all possible to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We strive to be responsible citizens and do our part to contain this global pandemic.
- All onsite church activities, including Sunday services, have been cancelled until further notice. This decision was not made lightly. The Elders, our Governing Board Chair and the Director of our Executive Committee support this decision. Our leaders consulted the Lord in prayer, searched Scripture and sought wise counsel. This is why we have elected leaders to make decisions, especially during a crisis. I want you to know that the staff and I support the decisions of our elected leaders. Our support of the government doing its job to protect people is important, especially during a public health crisis. I assure you, this decision was not based on fear but out of love for our neighbor and respect for governing officials as God instructs in Romans 13:1-7. We trust that the Lord will see us through this and use it for his good purposes (Romans 8:28). Updates, at least weekly, can be found on our website lolchurch.net/coronavirus.
- Continue to be the Church. If you or anyone you know is in an absolute emergency regarding the need for groceries, meals, childcare or help paying bills, please email Curt Berg. Several people have offered to help when needs arise. Thank you! At this time, the staff will continue to work from the church office during normal office hours, keeping our social distance. If you would like prayer support or need anything at all, contact the church office at (630) 513-5325 or lol@lolchurch.net.
- Continue to be spiritually fed. We realize nothing substitutes the physical gathering of God’s people. As an alternative during this time and to continue the habit of weekly worship, we will provide a pre-recorded service to watch and an eLesson to use for families with kids. It will be available for you this weekend at our website lolchurch.net. I also invite you to listen to the message from last Sunday and watch sermons from previous weeks. The Elders, staff and I will continue to drum up ideas of staying connected.
- Continue to pray. Pray for our medical professionals and hospitals. They are over run. Delnor has set up tents outside to try to meet the demand of the crowds coming in to be tested for COVID-19 but they are short on supplies. Pray for our governing officials to act with godly wisdom to mitigate the virus, contain it and eradicate it. Pray that people, all people, will do their part to not hoard or be selfish, but care for their neighbor. Pray for people suffering from the coronavirus; may God heal our world.
- Continue to financially support the Church. Times of crises test our faith. I encourage you to test God with your giving during this crisis (Malachi 3:10). Continue to put him first in all areas, including financially. Lord of Life financial obligations do not decrease in times such as these, they actually increase as we assist needs related to this pandemic. I encourage you to give to support the work of the church by either mailing your check to the church (PO Box 70, LaFox, IL 60147), dropping it off at the church office or give online at our website. There you can set up a one-time gift or a recurring gift (login first to set up a recurring gift). Email our Treasurer, Kristi, if you need help.
Finally, I’ve attached the handout that I mentioned during services on Sunday. We ran out of them! It’s a list of verses from the Psalms that a member of our church reads when she feels anxious or fearful. It gives her peace. One of those verses is Psalm 118:6, “The Lord is with me, I will not be afraid.” Use this handout and keep it nearby as we go through this together. Remember this, God is still on his throne and he is in control! Peace be with you!
Through it all…God is good!

Coronavirus Update – March 12, 2020
(Emailed to Congregation at 12:14pm, Thu, March 12, 2020)
Dear Lord of Life Church Family,
I want to give you an update regarding Lord of Life’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The Elders and I met (Wed, March 11, 2020) to provide you the following update.
Love and truth, not fear and panic: We strive to live for Christ in love, not fear. We also strive to know the truth and not succumb to panic that is so pervasive at this time. John wrote (1 John 4:18), “perfect love drives out fear.” While this pandemic is serious and spreading, God has given us “a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline” and He is in control! Resist fear, be wise and trust in God. If you’re healthy, come to church and find comfort in the gathering of his people as we worship, proclaim His Word and fellowship together.
A safe and healthy environment: We want to be wise by taking necessary precautions to combat the spread of illness. We are being proactive to make our gathering together as safe and healthy as possible. Based on the updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we developed a precautionary plan. This will change based on a number of factors, but as of today, here are the steps we are taking.
- In addition to cleaning the building as usual, our custodians will now be routinely disinfecting all frequently touched surfaces.
- There will be hand sanitizer readily available.
- Volunteers, including communion assistants, will have their hands well-sanitized.
- To minimize the need to touch door handles, our volunteers will hold exterior doors open to welcome you.
- All restroom wastebaskets have been relocated so that you can wash your hands, dry them, use a paper towel to open the door and discard it on your way out.
- We are committed to wiping down surfaces before and after church activities with disinfectant wipes.
We are monitoring the situation: Our staff and elected leadership are constantly monitoring the announcements from the Governor’s office and the Illinois Department of Public Health. We will keep you posted regarding any necessary updates affecting the activity of our church.
Pray: Join me in prayer for all people suffering from the coronavirus. Pray for all government officials, medical professionals and hospitals working tirelessly to serve our local community and world. May the Lord grant healing to the suffering and success to the science community working to find medical breakthroughs!
The words of Psalm 91 are extremely relevant for our times, “Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
Through it all…God is good!
