This past Sunday we announced that Lord of Life will soon be getting its own K9 Comfort dog. Comfort Dogs are trained to interact with people at churches, schools, nursing homes, hospitals, events, and in disaster response situations. A dog is a friend who brings a calming influence, allowing people to receive help. To find out more about the Comfort Dog ministry visit the Comfort Dog Facebook page at facebook.com/k9comfort or their website at k9comfort.org.
We have seen firsthand the benefits of a K9 Comfort Dog as LCC staff dog Tara along with volunteer, Marie Payes, have been working with Meagan Seals to help develop cognitive and sensory skills. Over the past couple of months leadership at Lord of Life considered all the benefits of a Comfort Dog and decided to acquire one full time for their ministry. LCC staff members Tim Kurth, Dona Martin, Rich Martin, and Lynn Buhrke were on hand to share in the announcement on Sunday along with K9’s Tara (pictured), Olympia, and Chewie.
The comfort Dogs are busy in action this week as they will be traveling south to serve those who have been affected by recent tornadoes. We pray God will use them in a mighty way.
There will be an informational meeting on Sunday, March 11 following the 10am worship service for anyone who is interested in being a part of this ministry or just learning more. Get a start and fill out a Comfort Dog Handler Application. Deadline for the applications are Friday, March 16.
