Lord of Life’s Comfort Dog Ministry program is based on a dedicated team of people surrounding a Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) trained Comfort Dog.  LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs are specially-chosen, highly-trained Golden Retrievers who are a bridge to accomplish the following mission: to touch people with the mercy, compassion, love, presence & proclamation of Christ. Chloe has a God-given gift of being able to sense people who are hurting or in need and she gravitates to them. God gives Chloe a magnetic presence that draws people to her.

Petting a dog has a naturally calming effect and has also been medically shown to lower a person’s blood pressure. The comfort dogs’ gentle demeanor, loving nature and non-threatening, passive behavior allows a person to relax, and many times share what’s on their minds and hearts as they’re petting the dog. Dogs don’t tell secrets and people feel safe talking to them. They just love and accept people unconditionally which has a very positive and healing effect.  The job of Chloe’s handlers is to listen and shine the love of Christ to those they encounter, praying with people and sharing the Gospel as the opportunity arises.

People are naturally drawn to Chloe, especially when she is wearing her blue K-9 service vest. The words “please pet me” are an invitation to pet, hug and interact with Chloe. People experience Chloe’s calming effect, which tends to bring a smile to their face and renewed hope for a better day. Chloe is the bridge that allows us to share the love, mercy, compassion, and hope of Jesus to those in need.

Every LCC K-9 dog has a Bible verse assigned to them and it is part of their AKC registered name.  Chloe’s Bible verse is, 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT   “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful.  He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand.  When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

It is our prayer that people who meet Chloe will receive this hope in Christ. We know our journey with Chloe will take us down many paths in the future as God leads us to serve His people during disasters. We also look forward to the celebrations in life that will be joyful.
