Earthquake Relief Update (01.29.10)

The final push is here.  We will complete the relief supply drive this weekend on Sunday at noon.  We are praying for an incredible weekend.  Our prayer is to receive more than 10,000 items will be received.  It is an ambitious goal as earlier in the week we had surpassed 3,000.  Please continue to pray for this effort! If you have not yet contributed, make sure to check the needs list and bring your contribution on Sunday when you come to worship.

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer.  Lutheran Church Charities is in need of volunteers to help with the collection from all the various churches in the Chicago area.  If you would like to volunteer to help with the pick up or to serve at their warehouse in Itasca, you can fill out their volunteer application.

Here is a listing of the Lutheran Church Charities service opportunities:

  • We need drivers to do the pick-ups from (so far) 22 collection sites using our vehicles.
  • We need volunteers to help load trucks at pre-assigned collection sites .
  • We need volunteers to unload and sort the boxes of donations at the warehouse we are using in Itasca. (All warehouse volunteers must be 18 or older. Those unloading trucks and building pallets must be able to lift 50lbs. Please bring your own work gloves)
  • We need volunteers to palletize & shrink wrap the donations on the pallets
  • We need a couple of volunteers to do clerical work on the computers making labels, keeping records. (These volunteers will be working on Friday at the LCC office and the rest of the week as gophers at the warehouse)
  • We need photographers to document the work at the collection sites, the volunteers and the work at the warehouse.
  • We need volunteer support people to make and serve refreshments & meals to the volunteers.
  • And as always, and most important, we need your prayer support for the drivers, the warehouse volunteers, staff and office volunteers, the relief workers and the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
  • The first delivery has been made to the Lutheran Church Charities warehouse in Itasca.  They come from Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Illinois which was the church where Pastor Kolb served before coming to Lord of Life.  You can watch Lutheran Church Charities video of the supplies arriving below.
