Announcements for Sunday, February 10, 2013

Special Offering
We are going to have a Special Offering on Sunday, February 27th.  There are several purposes for this offering:

1. We are committed to being good stewards with what God has given us.  As we strive to be good stewards we are committed to eliminate our debt.  Eliminating debt  includes avoiding new debts.  It has been clearly expressed through the voters of Lord of Life that we not take on a line of credit to cover “seasonal” shortfalls.  This means that it is important to have a cash reserve on hand for those times of the year when our expenses exceed our giving and available cash is in short supply.

Last year we were able to meet our expenses during the late Summer crunch because we had adequate funds in reserve.  Also, because we had those funds available we were able to replace the shed that fell apart with a very nice new garage at a very reasonable cost of $12,272.  Thank you God, Trustees and all volunteers who worked on that project!  Establishing this reserve allows the Trustees to make timely repairs and to properly maintain the premises.

In 2012 our Revenues exceeded our Expenses by $10,579 (this doesn’t include the $12,272 spent on the Garage because the Garage is an Asset that we paid cash for).  This is the second year in a row that we’ve ended the year with a “balanced budget”.  We thank God for His provision and you for your faithful giving.

2. Godly stewardship also involves having an emergency reserve on hand.  In the unfortunate event where we would have a major building repair, natural disaster, or church cancelled on a Sunday because of a snowstorm, we would be in a major financial bind not having this reserve on hand.

3. God has called us to focus on his mission and his work.  When the leadership is focused on how to pay weekly expenses, it can be a major distraction to what God has called us to do…Ministry!  We are praying that we can continue to move past focusing on paying the bills and focus on the vision God has given us.  Satan does all he can to distract us from God’s purposes and money is one of the things he uses.

During February we will be handing out gold offering envelopes for the Special Offering.  I would encourage you to set aside a certain amount each week and place it in this envelope.  We will then bring these envelopes forward on Sunday, February 27th.  Please keep in mind that this offering is a special offering and does not replace our regular offering.

Please pray for God’s provision and blessing, and for many to participate.  We are praying this offering will be a joyful celebration of unexpected checks in the mail, large tax refunds, bonuses received, jobs secured, raises, and bills paid off.  We’re asking God for his blessing so that we can be a blessing through his Church.

Some may be able to give more and some may be able to give less.  2 Cor. 9:7 “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”  God loves the cheerful giver because the cheerful giver knows the secret that the only reason they are able to give is because God gave them the ability to give.  Hallelujah!

In February we will hear more about the Blessings given and received through Lord of Life this past year.  The Executive Board has provided an update of the 2012 year-end financial position.  Please join us in praying for this effort and for your participation.

Happy Birthday Chloe
Happy Birthday Chloe! Chloe the Comfort Dog turns 2 today and we want to take time to thank God for all that he has accomplished through the Comfort Dog Ministry. We also want to recognize the people God has used to make this ministry possible. Some people have asked about gifts for Chloe. What Chloe likes best is helping other people. Here is what you can do: So many people want to help the people affected by Superstorm Sandy in a meaningful way – but are not sure what to do. Here is an opportunity to provide Mercy and Compassion and Help to an individual or family right now!

ŸPurchase a Christian greeting card.

ŸPray for a family that has lost everything.

ŸWrite them a message in the card – whatever God places on your heart!

ŸInclude a gift card in the card (Visa, MasterCard, Walmart). If you so choose, include your email or phone number in the  message for them to call and thank you or pray with you.

ŸSeal the gift card with the greeting card in an envelope.

ŸPlace your return address on the envelope.

ŸOn the back of the envelope – in the lower right hand corner, place the amount of the gift card.

ŸMail the card to: Lutheran Church Charities – SANDY CARE CARDING; 333 W Lake Street; Addison, IL 60101 and share that it is in honor of Chloe’s Birthday.

Lutheran Church Charities will then send a thank you and charitable receipt to the return address you place on the card. Lutheran Church Charities will deliver the cards unopened to Lutheran churches on the east coast for their members and staff to personally hand out to families and individuals who are in need.

This is a tangible way to show the Love of Jesus Christ to someone in need – and help them spiritually and physically! To those who already have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ – this shows them the support of the Body of Christ. To those who do not – it shows them the Mercy and Compassion of Jesus Christ through his church – the Body of Christ.
